  • Overview

    The responsibilities for a Direct Response (“DR”) Associate Buyer are comprised of the overall execution and management of our client’s DRTV media efforts.  This encompasses all activities from the initial buy assessment, negotiations & ongoing buy management/campaign stewardship and final reporting/reconciliation.  These functions will be executed under the close supervision of more seasoned buying staff.


    • Negotiate and buy for a list of cable networks.
    • Maintain regular communication with sales reps for assigned cable networks to remain current on prevailing DR pricing and inventory conditions, as well as relevant network-specific information. Update rate information quarterly and verify/update contact information as needed.
    • Input rates and build schedules within CoreBuy.
    • Negotiate DRTV media schedules on behalf of Active’s clients and monitor ongoing performance to determine necessary re-negotiations within flight to optimize performance.
    • For campaigns assigned for overall stewardship responsibility, develop and issue weekly campaign reporting inclusive of a weekly write up summarizing campaign performance versus goals and recommended buy management changes. Monitor weekly P&L to manage campaign delivery against internal performance objectives as well.
    • Work in conjunction with the Spot Market buyers on DR accounts with a local market component. Role includes development of DR buying specifications, reviewing buys for adherence to DR guidelines, campaign stewardship.
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with media vendors, agency partners, and client contacts.
    • Initiates meetings, lunches, and attend industry events associated with formulating a bonding relationship with clients, agencies and vendors.
    • Support Broadcast Director with diligent stewardship of all buys executed, including ongoing schedule revisions to optimize performance.
    • Run daily, weekly and quarterly reports
    • Reconcile vendor invoices and handle any discrepancies in order to complete necessary billing procedures in compliance with deadlines provided by Finance.
    • Provide guidance and assistance to Coordinators and Assistants, including but not limited to calling for pre and post log times from networks, downloading BVS (Broadcast Verification Services) into Core, preparing traffic instructions, and obtaining BVS codes prior to campaign start.

    • BA degree or equivalent experience is required
    • Minimum of one year of related buying experience and/or media training (in DRTV preferred)
    • Knowledge of CoreDirect
    • Knowledge of MediaBank and PeopleSoft is a plus
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, required
