Overview

Note: This position is Hybrid to NYC

 

The Media Planning Analyst is a data-driven, creative professional who helps plan and evaluate media strategies for a broad portfolio of clients. This role is responsible for analyzing data to provide insights and evidence that power strategic media planning. This role requires strong analytical and strategic skills, as well as the ability to think creatively and present ideas persuasively.

Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis: Organize and analyze large syndicated and proprietary data sets to uncover media or consumer trends and other actionable insights to inform strategic and creative media plans.
  • Research & Forecasting: Study demographic data and calculate campaign projected results, including unique reach and frequency of potential media vehicles.
  • Media Planning: Develop creative opportunities for clients in media choice and usage to increase impact. Use multiple sources of data to put forth numerically sound recommendations.
  • Media Optimization: Evaluate campaign performance and health, suggesting improvements and budget redirection into different channels and tactics. Review and direct channel or platform optimizations where appropriate.
  • Thought Leadership: Develop strong evidence-based POVs through intellectual curiosity, media research, and campaign experience.

 Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not currently have supervisory responsibilities.

 

The salary range for this position is $67,000-72,000. The successful candidate’s salary will depend on actual ranges of current employees in the subject position, market considerations, budgetary considerations, geography, as well as the candidate’s skill set, level of experience, and qualifications. Qualifications

  • Strong familiarity with the U.S. Advertising market, major media tools and platforms
  • Proficient in media math, including Nielsen data and digital media data taxonomy
  • Demonstrable strategic thinking and analysis skills, with the ability to translate results into clear, concise presentations, written reports, and data visualizations
  • 3+ years of experience required in quantitative analysis to help inform insights for markets, consumer or media trends

Technical requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (complex formula and data automation skills required, VBA coding preferred)
  • Strong familiarity with multiple datasets:
    • Consumer & Media datasets: Nielsen, MRI, Resonate, Scarborough
    • 1st party or consumer level data: Sales data, location data, digital ad metrics
    • Public datasets: including but not limited to Census data, Bureau of Labor & Statistics, Economic Research Service, Google Trends
  • Working knowledge of crosstab software
  • Experience with Data Visualization (even in PPT) BI tools and reporting (Datorama/Tableau, Microsoft BI, Flourish)
  • Experience creating testing constructs to understand the value of different targeting executions and ensuring accurate campaign tracking and reporting will enable all measurement goals.
  • Moderate understanding of basic statistical principles and data analysis
    • Various methods of test design to achieve significance.
    • Organize & analyze data using SQL, R, or Python
    • Familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g. SPSS)

Additional qualifications, a plus

  • Advanced working knowledge of Nielsen data and software products, including NPOWER, NNTV, NMI, and AdIntel
  • Experience with consumer segmentation or market readiness analysis
  • Experience contributing to the creation of documents to showcase performance and provide in-depth analysis of results to a less technical audience
  • Emerging Media Guidance: Stay on the cutting edge of emerging media strategy and performance, suggesting and structuring tests. Provide oversight to ensure clients can experiment with emerging media in the most risk-averse manner

Ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, will have digital or performance agency or tech company experience, in an analyst role.
